A 1-year-old baby traveling in Russia cheated death twice in one day. In a shocking video that has now gone viral, the little girl is seen being flung from the back window of the car and into oncoming traffic.

The little girl was not strapped into her car seat, as per reports from ABC News on Jan. 23.

Inquistr explains:

Instead of placing the baby in secured seat, the 53-year-old driver let the one-year-old ride on a shelf located under the back windshield. When the driver attempted to pass another vehicle on the icy highway, he lost control of the car. As a result, the baby was flung out of the car.

Russian police comment the little girl was traveling in the car: “like a doll on the back shelf of the car”.

Icy roads in Russia caused the driver to lose control of his Mitsubishi SUV car and thus making it skid out of control. She lands on the street and a semi-truck seems headed right for her.

As if she did not already face a scary incident, the truck seems headed straight towards her. Just barely missing her, the truck passes her and she is safe.

The passenger in the car was able to run out and grab the 1-year-old baby flung out of the car get her to safety.

The little girl reportedly suffered contusions on her forehead, lips, and is suspected to have a ‘closed head injury’ as well.

Zap2it notes: “Only a third of the Russian population uses car seats, the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion found in a poll.”

According to the CDC:

In the United States during 2009, 1,314 children ages 14 years and younger died as occupants in motor vehicle crashes, and approximately 179,000 were injured.

One CDC study found that, in one year, more than 618,000 children ages 0-12 rode in vehicles without the use of a child safety seat or booster seat or a seat belt at least some of the time.
